Meet the Wiesmann Thunderball, an electric convertible packing 500 kW

Wiesmann is coming back to sports car production after many years of obscurity. Its first new project is the Thunderball, a fully electric convertible with retro charms.

The car uses dual electric motors, but lacks all-wheel drive: both motors reside at the rear axle, driving it with 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) and 1,100 Nm (811 lb-ft) of torque. The standard launch takes only 2.9 seconds, and an 83-kWh traction battery ensures there is at least 500 km (310 miles) of driving range.

From the design standpoint, the Thunderball is packed with references to other Wiesmann cars. Paying homage to the past are the front grille, the double round headlights and the cabin. The latter combines a vintage look with modern amenities, such as a touchscreen display and carbon-fiber seats.

It is still unknown when the car will become available for purchase and at what price point.
