A 1944 Jeep Willys off-roader that has starred in many movies and shows about the World War II, including Steven Spielberg’s famous Saving Private Ryan and Brothers in Arms, will go under the hammer in Birmingham, UK in early November.
The listing is light on details. The car retains its stock engine and manual gearbox and has 25,975 miles (~41,800 km) showing on the odometer. Back in its era, such cars typically came equipped with 2.2-liter engines capable of 60 horsepower (45 kW) or so.
The seller is none other than TLO Film Services, a company specializing in supplying filming crews with automobile props to use on the set. The company maintains a whole department responsible for keeping rare vehicles in good working condition, and this Willys is no exception: its latest restoration was in February. The seller says some additional maintenance will be done immediately before the auction to ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Despite its Hollywood background and well-preserved state, the car is estimated at a low £18,000–22,000 (U.S. $22,000–26,500).
