Wind & Solar Tower will fuel EVs with the power of wind and sun

Jim Bardia has devised a charging station prototype for EVs that uses renewable wind and solar energy for its main function.

The Wind & Solar Tower looks like a tower with vertical air blades mounted on it alongside self-cleaning solar elements. The ‘windmill’ part is suspended on a magnetic cushion, which minimizes unwanted friction. A multi-range gearbox it connects to ensures optimum power generation for any given wind speed from 8 to 110 kilometers per hour.

The system supports up to six simultaneous charging EVs. It comes with an in-built 1,000-kWh battery and can output excess energy to the main grid. Annual generation is estimated at 169,000 kWh, which translates into roughly 600,000 miles (966,000 kilometers) of electric range.
