When it just debuted 57 years ago, the Iso Fidia Rivolta was advertised as the planet’s fastest-going vehicle with four doors. Only 192 units were produced, and this MY1970 example is now being auctioned off with the bidding at a low €10,259.
The exterior of the Iso Fidia Rivolta was penned by the legendary Giorgetto Giugiaro, while the powertrain was designed by Giotto Bizzarrini based on third-party components. The company used 5.4-liter Chevrolet V8 engines at first and later switched to 5.7-liter Ford V8s paired with that company’s manual transmissions. Note that the word “fastest” referred to the 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) sprint time, which was close to seven seconds, and not the top speed.
The sheer technological sophistication of the car and its rich fit-and-finish dictated its high price. As a result, the company had only managed to find buyers for 192 units from 1967 until 1974 (John Lennon was among them, by the way). With the oil crisis unfolding in the mid-1970s, the production came to an abrupt end.
The car on sale has belonged to the same person for the past 27 years. It only has 85,500 km (53,127 miles) on the odometer, but the owner admits that whoever buys it will need to invest big into restoration. Among other issues, the car no longer has an original engine, instead rocking a 4.0-liter V8 of unknown origin. This surely explains why the bidding has been so slow.
