Wuling announces Xingchen, its first SUV for the world

On September 16, carmaker Wuling will start the sales of its new crossover SUV, Xingchen. The car will open the Silver Label lineup and show off the company’s new design direction. It will also be the first Wuling model available outside of China.

The Xingchen has a V-shaped front fascia and opaque c-pillars. At 4,594 mm long, 1,820 mm wide and 1,740 mm tall with 2,750 mm between the axles, it is comparable to the Toyota RAV4.

Interior highlights include a squared-off steering wheel, a digital dashboard, and a separate slim 10.25-inch display. The multimedia system is also new and never installed on a production car before.

The SUV uses the SGMW architecture of Wuling and Baojun. Details remain to be announced, but reports claim that the car will come with a 1.5-liter engine rated at 147 PS (145 hp / 108 kW). Mixed-cycle fuel consumption may be close to 7 liters per 100 km, or 33.6 MPG.

The production will take place at the SAIC-GM joint factory. GM involvement will enable Wuling to sell the model overseas. Rumor has it that the Xingchen will become its staple model at the first stage of international expansion.
