China rolls out an electric SUV smaller than Suzuki Jimny

The first official images of an upcoming compact battery CUV have surfaced online in China. The vehicle had been previously teased as a ‘Baojun Yueye’ and spotted testing as a ‘Wuling City Fun’. The final branding and production name remain unknown.

The vehicle is 3,381 mm long, 1,685 mm wide and 1,721 mm tall with 2,110 mm between the axles. The three-door Jimny SUV has a body 3,480 mm long if you count out the spare wheel and a wheelbase spanning 2,250 mm.

Judging by the photos, it is a rather angular-looking baby SUV with running boards, unpainted bumpers and black plastic-trimmed wheel arches and side sills. There are three doors in total with the tailgate having a sculpted part that could be a storage box.

The only electric motor available is installed at the rear axle, driving it with 68 PS (67 hp / 50 kW) and 140 Nm (103 lb-ft) of torque. The capacity of the traction battery remains to be revealed, but the patent listing mentions that it consists of LiFePo4 cells and yields 303 km (188 miles) of unspecified driving range.

The sales are slated to begin before the end of March. A two-motor/AWD variant of the same car may emerge later on.
