The Wuling microcar range in China already includes the lauded Mini EV selling nearly 500,000 units per year and the smaller Nano EV, and now, a new model named Air EV is joining them.
In its simpler trims, the supermini comes equipped with halogen headlamps and antiquated filament-based taillights. The top trims bring along LEDs and even a stylish light stripe for the front end.
Underpinning the tiny electric ride is a platform known as GSEV, which has McPherson struts for rear suspension. Its sole electric motor is mounted in the back and drives the rear axle with 41 PS (40 hp / 30 kW) and 110 Nm (81 lb-ft) of torque. The ground clearance amounts to 126 mm (5 inches).
In its base spec, the Air EV (stylized as Air ev) is a two-seater, but you can opt for a four-seat variant with a longer wheelbase. Customers in China can pay extra and outfit the four-seat version with a motor good for 68 PS (67 hp / 50 kW) and 140 Nm (103 lb-ft) of torque. There are two battery choices as well, one rated for 200 and the other for 300 km of range. The top speed is in any case capped at 100 km/h (62 mph).
The standard equipment includes a 7-inch digital dashboard and an air conditioner. Paying a premium adds a 10.25-inch infotainment display and a surround view camera set.
Prices start as low as $10,000.
