Xiaomi to Enter European EV Market Next Year

Xiaomi is poised to introduce its electric vehicles to the European market, commencing in Germany next year. The company plans to establish its sales network through established dealership groups rather than a direct-to-consumer model.

To facilitate this expansion, Xiaomi has signed memorandums of understanding with several prominent German dealership groups, including LUEG Mobility GmbH and Emil Frey Germany. This strategy leverages existing automotive retail infrastructure and customer trust, providing a robust foundation for market entry. Xiaomi already maintains a research and development center in Munich, Germany, further supporting its European operations.

The European models are anticipated to carry a higher price point compared to their Chinese counterparts. This is primarily due to the European Union's tariffs on imported electric vehicles from China. Xiaomi did not participate in the European Commission's 2023 investigation into Chinese EV subsidies, which could result in the imposition of the highest possible duty of 45.3 percent on its vehicles.

While Xiaomi has achieved significant sales success in its domestic Chinese market, delivering over 700,000 units, its brand recognition in Europe is comparatively lower. The company will need to rely on compelling product features and competitive pricing to attract consumers in the highly contested European automotive landscape.
