Xiaomi rolls out extreme SU7 Ultra racer

During a new product announcement event, Xiaomi has shed some light on an impending racecar modification of its SU7 electric sedan. Dubbed the SU7 Ultra, the ambitious newcomer has its sights set on setting a Nürburgring record.

The yellow and black exterior may look similar to the production bodywork, but is actually made completely from carbon fiber to minimize weight. Tipping the scales at 1.9 metric tons (under 4,200 lbs), the EV is no lightweight but comparable to similarly sized ICE cars on the market.

A trio of electric motors push a combined 1,548 PS (1,527 hp / 1,139 kW) to the wheels. Xiaomi claims the car reaches 100 km/h (62 mph) in 1.97 seconds and doubles that acceleration in 5.96 seconds. The top speed lies above 350 km/h (217 mph).
A giant rear wing, an elaborate lower skirt and other body kit parts allegedly generate up to 2,147 kg (4,733 lbs) of downforce – more than the car itself weighs.

According to the CEO of the Chinese company, the North Loop is still recognized as the world’s most challenging racetrack. As such, it presents perfect proving grounds for high-end vehicle prototypes. This October, the automaker will attempt to set a new lap record there with a pre-production example of the SU7 Ultra.
