Chinese automaker Xpeng surely went creative with its latest two design studies, unveiling a supercar with what appears to be an octocopter attached and a minivan with three axles… and another drone. Feeling confused yet? We’ll clear things up, read on.
Starting with the futuristic coupe, it is proudly called ‘a supercar’ and has a cabin mounted close to the front end. It uses video cameras instead of side mirrors to minimize drag and has doors that can become transparent in mid-flight to maximize visibility. Did we say ‘mid-flight’? That’s because the unnamed concept vehicle has eight rotors attached to its frame, some of them persistent and others retractable, allowing it to fly short distances. Rumor has it that Xpeng wants a vehicle like this released on the market as soon as 2025.
In turn, the minivan has three driven axles and six wheels. It is shown in the gallery below with another aerial drone attached, but it doesn’t fly – instead, it carries a passenger pod for two adult people that can disengage from the van and fly.
