Video: This is how a chute system for flying cars works

Xpeng AeroHT has posted a video previewing its proprietary aerial vehicle rescue system in action. The company has been running tests lately and believes multiple parachutes can lower a flying car to the ground even if all electric motors fail in mid-flight.

The footage shows the electric VTOL lift to the altitude of 50 m (164 feet) in the air and drop, suspended on chutes. Xpeng says the descent occurs at 5.2 meters (17 feet) per second with the passenger cabin floor parallel to the ground.

The crew inspecting the vehicle after the emergency landing said no damage was found. It is unclear whether the company has used any human passengers or mannequins in its tests yet.
