Xpeng Motors has officially launched sales of its first all-electric sedan, the P7. Only pre-booking is available so far, with the actual shipments scheduled for Q2 2020.
In its most basic specification, the car packs a single electric motor on the rear axle, which gives it 267 hp (200 kW) along with 390 Nm (288 lb-ft) of torque. Getting from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 6.7 seconds, and a 80.87-kWh battery gives it between 550 and 650 kilometers (342 – 404 miles) of range, according to the NEDC standard.
The range-topping Xpeng P7 boasts dual motors mounted one per axle and is therefore an all-wheel drive car. It has 430 hp (321 kW) and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft) of torque and launches in 4.3 seconds. The driving range stays the same as above, but using a high-power charging station for just 10 minutes extends the range by 120 kilometers (75 miles). The company claims that topping up from 30% to 80% takes less than half an hour.
The sedan is 4,880 mm (16 feet) long and has 2,998 mm (9.84 ft.) between the axles. Its aerodynamic drag ratio is quite good at 0.236.
The dashboard houses a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and a 14.97-inch infotainment display combined into a single unit. The only hardware controls you can find are located on the steering wheel and the doors. The infotainment unit runs the proprietary operating system Xmart OS, which supports over-the-air (OTA) updates. The autopilot tech is rated at SAE Level 3 and consists of four video cameras, multiple radars, high-resolution maps, and a plethora of sensors. The infotainment interface reads facial expressions and the eye direction, and can talk to you in a synthesized voice.
