China-based automaker Xpeng Motors has revealed Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP), a feature that should enable its electric cars to drive themselves on suburban highways.
The technology is based on NVidia CPUs and a few dozen cameras and sensors. The car can automatically accelerate, brake, change lanes and overtake. Drivers will still need to keep hands on the wheel to be able to react in challenging situations or adverse weather conditions.
The Xpeng P7 sedan, which starts from 200,000 Chinese Yuan, will be the first EV to receive this capability in the first quarter of 2021. Pricing details are pending.
