Xpeng X9 battery minivan debuts in China

Xpeng is attending this year’s Guangzhou Auto Show with its first minivan – the X9. You can already pre-order it with full prices beginning at 388,000 Yuan.

The MPV is based on the SEPA2.0 platform. It is 5,293 mm long, 1,988 mm wide and 1,785 mm tall with 3,160 mm between the axles. The manufacturer claims it has resorted to as many as 17 special design decisions to reduce drag, including a slanted roofline in the back. As a result, the drag ratio fell to an impressively low 0.227. Air-ride suspension and four-wheel steering are already included in all versions.

Inside, the two-spoke steering wheel and the door panels are the only places where physical buttons are still present. The dashboard and the infotainment system are represented by two separate displays. The center console houses two cup holders and a pair of wireless charging pads, while the gear selector sits on the steering column.

The middle seat row offers separate seats with a ‘Zero Gravity’ function, assorted power adjustments and slide-out footrests. A 21.4-inch TV is built into the ceiling, and a thermal box is available inside the center console that can keep temperatures from zero to +50ºC (+32…+122ºF).

The three-seat bench in the back can be folded to increase the available trunk space to 2,554 liters (90.2 cubic feet).

In its most basic form, the Xpeng X9 uses a single electric motor at the front axle with 320 PS (316 hp / 235 kW). The AWD variant uses two motors and has 503 PS (496 hp / 370 kW). There are two battery sizes on offer – 84.5 and 101.5 kilowatt-hours – but the top spec only supports the larger one. Driving range varies from 610 to 702 km (379–436 miles) depending on the mode.

All customers leaving a 2,000-Yuan deposit now will get a 5,000-Yuan discount on the minivan when it starts shipping in January 2024.
