Chinese startup previews an electric liftback inspired by aviation

The JuneYao Auto Air will debut with full specifications in the second quarter of the year and go on sale in 2025 priced under 200,000 Yuan ($28,180), reports Car News China.

JuneYao Auto is a subsidiary of JuneYao Group, a multi-profile corporation best known as an air carrier. During the Covid pandemic, the company fell on hard times and decided to diversify its investments. It bought out a startup firm named Yudo Auto (Yundu), which was founded in 2015 and has been struggling to take off.

In 2023, Yudo produced a small electric CUV named the Yuntu for the domestic market of China (see video). Now that JuneYao Auto has been established, however, the Yudo brand might get scrapped.

The JuneYao Air is an electric hatchback that comes in six colors: Cloud White, Dawn Black, Earth Green, Morning Glow Pink, Sky Blue, and Sunrise Gold. It follows a minimalist aeronautical aesthetic and runs on the company’s own, proprietary platform. The technical specifications are still unknown.

A peek inside reveals an LCD dash display, a large infotainment display, a dual-spoke steering wheel, a couple of cup holders and a wireless phone charger.

JuneYao Group says it will be using Air EVs as ridesharing vehicles and private shuttles in airports. Whether (or when) they will go on public sale remains unclear.
