Broad Arrow will be holding an auction in Switzerland in November dedicated to a rare 1987 Aston Martin Lagonda 3-Series sedan. Only 76 such vehicles left the factory to begin with, and this one was reshaped into a Shooting Brake by Swiss company Roos. It’s currently estimated at 250,000–300,000 CHF, which roughly corresponds to 308,000–431,000 USD.
The idea to turn the Lagonda 3-Series into a sporty wagon originated from its owner. Still, Aston Martin formally approved of the project and actually even helped bring it to life by supplying OEM components for the build. Aside from cutting and retrofitting the bodywork, Roos added extra taillights to the rear end and made sure to maximize the trunk space. Adding to the challenge was the fact that the owner insisted on keeping the body length and the wheelbase intact, reportedly to avoid any extra homologation work.
The build was completed in 2000. The car retained its 5.3-liter V8 mated to an automatic transmission, but both ended with significant upgrades over stock. As well, Roos stripped the Lagonda of its infamously fault-prone electrics and installed a more up-to-date ECU. It also reinforced the rear suspension to handle any extra luggage weight – too bad no performance figures were published.
The interior received an overhaul in Connolly leather, synthetic suede and wood veneers. Perhaps the quirkiest thing inside is a dedicated system for diverting exhaust gases from the cabin when the engine is running and the tailgate is raised.
