Audi A2 EV: Efficiency and Design Focus

Audi has unveiled the new A2, an all-electric vehicle positioned as the brand's entry-level offering, succeeding the A1 and Q2. The design prioritizes aerodynamic efficiency, resulting in a drag coefficient of 0.24, achieved through a lozenge-shaped silhouette, short overhangs, and smooth underfloor aero transitions. The vehicle’s aesthetic incorporates a distinctive front fascia with an integrated black panel for sensors, and features such as shallow DLO and clean body sides.

The A2 utilizes the latest generation of permanent-magnet synchronous motors, designated APP350 and APP550, which incorporate enhancements like low-viscosity oil and advanced stator/rotor components for improved efficiency. Power outputs range from 167 to 322 bhp, with all variants featuring a rear-wheel-drive configuration. The most efficient model, an 187 bhp version with an optional efficiency package, achieves an estimated 4.8 mi/kWh WLTP, making it the most efficient Audi to date.

Three battery configurations are available: 52 kWh and 61 kWh units employing LFP chemistry, and an 84 kWh NMC battery. The 228 bhp A2 variant boasts a claimed range of up to 401 miles. Charging capabilities extend up to 183 kW for more powerful versions. Suspension upgrades are optional on the 228 bhp model and standard on the most potent variant, while drive modes include Comfort, Balanced, Efficiency, and Dynamic.

Standard features include linear steering, with a variable ratio setup available as part of the Tech Plus package. Further details regarding trim levels and market availability are expected to be announced at a later date.
