RHD, tuned, high-mileage Honda Civic sells for nearly $30k

This 28-year-old Honda Civic Type R hatchback went on sale in the United States the other day and found a buyer willing to pay $29,888 for it. You could argue that the EK9 Civic generation (see video) is the most desirable one around, but that’s still plenty of money for a heavily used JDM classic.

The original owner had equipped the hot hatch with a number of aftermarket upgrades. These included a Spoon Sports ECU, a K&N air filter, reinforced engine and transmission mounts, a lightweight flywheel and a sportier clutch. Despite still having its petite 1.6-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine under the hood, the car now outputs 188 PS (185 hp / 138 kW) and 160 Nm (118 lb-ft) of torque to the rear wheels. It also sounds great revving all the way to 8,400 RPM, and commands a classic five-speed manual transmission.

The listing also mentioned a completely rebuilt suspension based around Öhlins coilovers. The interior is largely stock except for a Momo steering wheel. It’s a right-hand-drive car with around 187,100 km (116,250 miles) under its belt, but someone still figured it was worth thirty grand.
