Honda CR-V goes camping on 30th birthday

Honda Europe has just celebrated 30 years of its CR-V crossover. To make the occasion memorable, it launched a concept named the Dream Pod – a home on wheels for two adults, loosely inspired by the pod hotels of Japan.

The company took a camping module known as the Egoe Nestboard 650 and put it into the trunk. It’s not much by itself, but makes a large enough bed for two when you fold down the rear seats. When not in use as a bed, the same module provides access to a kitchen stove, a folding sink and a mini-cupboard.

The rest of the car was also overhauled with things like LED lamps for nighttime reading, slide-out tables and handy USB ports. Variably dimmable curtains were put on the windows and a bike rack was mounted onto the tailgate.

The Honda CR-V debuted in 1995 and is now going through its sixth generation. Over 1,000,000 units have been sold in Europe alone throughout the years, making it the world’s third best-selling SUV – at least, according to Honda itself.
