Koenigsegg unveils Sadair’s Spear

The Swedish automaker calls its latest-and-greatest street-permitted hypercar a standalone model, but it’s based on the Jesko chassis.

Only 30 examples will be made, all already sold out during a private reveal event. Top Gear adds that the minimum price was £3.8 million – that’s nearly $5.2 million in American money.

Like the Jesko before it, the Sadair’s Spear comes equipped with a 5.0-liter twin-turbo V8, but the new version benefits from improved air intake, cooling and ECU calibrations. As a result, it outputs 25 PS (25 hp / 18 kW) extra for a total of 1,625 PS (1,603 hp / 1,195 kW). These numbers are only achievable with E85 fuel, but you can pour in high-quality pump gas and still get around 1,300 PS (1,282 hp / 956 kW). Torque varies from 1,000 to 1,500 Nm (738–1,106 lb-ft) depending on the mode.

The new model also weighs 35 kilos (77 pounds) less than the one it is based upon. To achieve this, Koenigsegg removes even more noise proofing, replaces even more structural parts with carbon fiber and optimizes every single detail. The body kit benefits from track-specific changes: according to the company, it is designed to maximize downforce and reduce drag at the most typical racing speeds.

You can tell the Sadair’s Spear from the Jesko by its redesigned active rear wing, enlarged front canards, different gill-like openings in the fenders and revised air intakes. The kit should be good for 850 kilos (1,974 lbs) of downforce at 250 km/h (155 mph) and up to 1,765 kilos (3,891 lbs) at peak acceleration, which is estimated at 360 km/h (223 mph).

Other dynamic performance indicators remain to be measured. Koenigsegg claims the car has already lapped up the Gotland Ring in Sweden, coming 1.1 seconds ahead of the Jesko Attack. That’s especially impressive when you consider it’s completely street-legal.
