Car Tuning
Long before it became an integral part of Mercedes, AMG took a gorgeous 500SEC coupe and transformed it into something entirely special. The car ended up with an engine boost, a body kit and chassis tweaks.
The transformation took place in 1985 and began with a stock 5000SEC coupe based on the same platform as the Mercedes-Benz W126 sedan. AMG put the car on shortened springs and 17-inch OZ Racing wheels, taking care to install four-piston brakes all around as it did so. All chrome accents left the body in favor of blacked-out trim bits, and the tuner came up with a whole custom body kit for the model.
As for the V8 under the hood, it was expanded from 5 to whopping 6 liters of displacement and tuned to 330 PS (325 hp / 243 kW). The torque went up to 525 Nm (387 lb-ft). The original had 231 PS (228 hp / 170 kW) and 405 Nm (300 lb-ft) at its disposal.
The collection-worthy exotic is currently up for grabs at Cars&Bids with 82,200 km (51,100 mi) under its belt. The bidding is at $57,000 with two days left.
