Tesla decides to redesign the Cybertruck prior to production

The Tesla Cybertruck still hasn’t reached the market after its debut nearly a year ago. Now, Elon Musk admits the car might use a stylistic makeover before production.

According to him, we will be seeing the facelift in a month or so. The issue isn’t just that the pickup looks weird (that’s actually an advantage for some), but that the edgy body design creates serious risks for pedestrian safety. Because of this, most European countries won’t even recognize the model as road-legal.

Musk entrusts Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla’s chief designer, with what should begin as a mild update to the car’s exterior, complete with smaller window sills and a more even shoulder line. Should the Cybertruck fail to sell as well as expected, the company will overhaul it more profoundly, bringing it as close to the conventional pickup truck design as possible.

The latter seems a distant possibility, however, as the company reports registering over 500,000 pre-orders for the truck. The most expensive modifications should emerge next year with between 300 and 500 miles (480-800 km) of range, and the entry spec should follow later on.
