Toyota Hyryder changes clothes, becomes Suzuki Grand Vitara

Maruti Suzuki, the Indian branch of the Japanese car brand, has shared a teaser of its upcoming Grand Vitara SUV. The car, which is a rebadged version of the recently introduced Toyota Hyryder, is set to succeed the Suzuki S-Cross/SX-4 when it debuts on July 20.

Despite sharing the tech base with the Hyryder, the Grand Vitara will likely have its own exterior design, especially the bumpers. Its interior looks identical though, complete with a nine-inch infotainment display and a seven-inch digital gauge panel.

The engine palette will also be shared between the two. Among other powertrains, the Grand Vitara will be available with a hybrid system rated at 115 PS (113 hp / 85 kW) and up to 25 km (15 miles) of all-electric range. Optional part-time AWD will differentiate it from the Hyryder, though.

Preorders are already running. The production will take place at the same factory where the Hyryder is produced right now. Later on, either model may become available abroad, but it is too early to speculate where or when.
