Ford RS200 gets revived, but not in our world

The famous Group B rally car, the Ford RS200 (see video), is celebrating its 40th birthday this year. A team of Ford designers decided to pay homage to the classic by introducing the Ford RS2.00 Concept, nicknamed “Friendly Monster”. It will never be produced, but will be featured in a video game sometime later.

According to the people behind the project, they were preparing the next book in the “Secret Fords” series by Steve Saxty, one of the company’s former designers, when they got the idea for this project. Among other things, their contract with the Design Director of Ford Europe envisioned producing a number of design sketches based on the original 1984 Ford RS200.

As they sketched up their modern reinventions of the RS200, they spontaneously decided to go further and design a whole modern car with those iconic looks. Many of the designers are avid video game players and felt happy developing the concept in their spare time. When the management of Ford Europe heard of this, it approved of the project.

The finished rally car is known as the Ford RS2.00 Concept, or otherwise as the Apex Hero. It likely won’t ever be mass-produced, but there are talks about including it in the next update of a racing video game. The name of the game is being kept secret. Later on, the same team plans to sketch up a few other concepts like this, all dedicated to the legendary RS200.
