Rina Barchetta gets a coupe version

Italian niche automaker Automobili Mignatta made some ripples last year when it surprise-unveiled the Rina Barchetta. The open-op luxury vehicle boasted a design inspired by some of the most iconic Ferraris while using a naturally aspirated Ford Coyote V8 for propulsion. It has now followed up with a coupe variant of the Rina.

The car pictured in the sketches above is coming to the market in a body largely made from carbon fiber. Among other things, its headlight bezels, side skirts, quarter panels and interior door panels are made from “forged” carbon. The cabin gets a traditional analog dashboard, a steering wheel that’s slightly squared from below and a gated shifter for the six-speed manual transmission.

Although the appearance of the Rina Coupe evokes associations with mid-engined sports cars, the engine actually sits at the front end, right behind the front axle. The automaker calls it a “front-mid-engine” layout. Tuned by Italtecnica Engineering, the 5.0-liter American mill sends around 507 PS (500 hp / 373 kW) to the rear wheels.

The topless Rina Barchetta is scheduled for launch soon and will start from U.S. $290,000. Its Coupe counterpart will follow at a later date. Automobili Mignatta reckons it can produce no more than 30 units per year.
