U.S. auto firm Fat Fender Garage has followed up with details on one of their more interesting projects: a 1973 GMC Sierra restomod that doesn’t go out of its way to look like one.
For more than five decades, the pickup truck had stayed with one family seeing occasional use, until one of the family members decided to give it the restomod treatment. The main idea was to preserve the vintage looks of the ‘70s-era American truck and not go overboard on modern options.
Working with the Sierra, FFG refreshed the chrome bits, repainted the body in the original white-and-orange combo and put scintillating 22-inch chrome wheels into the arches for extra style points. You won’t find any crazy carbon-fiber aero marring this build; slammed Porterbuilt suspension is as far as the owner was willing to go in that direction.
Interior work largely boiled down to retrimming every surface in period-correct textile and artificially aged leather. As a restomod, the truck still packs some modern equipment, like a climate control system, a premium audio setup and new dash gauges. However, you will be challenged to spot these at a glance, because the idea was to stay classy, not go snazzy.
The result is known as the Bogey in honor of a bulldog kept by the owner’s family. FFG claims it took the owner ten years to properly conceptualize this project – specifically because he wanted it done without being overdone.
