Stellantis dials back misleading “made in USA” claims

As you may remember, the government of Italy took issue with Stellantis naming its next Alfa Romeo car “Milano” despite it not being made in that country. It also mandated Fiat Topolino shipment delays, citing false advertising charges against the company. Something similar has now happened in the United States as well.

This time around, Stellantis didn’t wait for the government to issue a cease-and-desist order. Instead, it preventatively pulled a whole number of video ads from its social media that sang praise to the American origins of its cars.

In the light of the recent tariff wars, it became abundantly clear that many Stellantis vehicles sold on the U.S. market were predominantly made from foreign parts. Some were pretty much assembled in Canada or Mexico from start to finish. That’s not fair play if you claim your car is patriotic and you support the U.S. economy by buying it.

Since there has been no official explanation of this sudden video ad removal – limited exclusively to videos with these “made in USA” claims – it looks like Stellantis acted on its own accord to prevent a potential scandal.
