New Mercedes-Benz GLE revealed ahead of premiere

Mercedes-Benz has released detailed information concerning the upcoming Mercedes-Benz GLE crossover before its official international debut.

The new GLE utilizes the MHA architecture and therefore has different dimensions than its predecessor. The wheelbase has gained 80 mm (3.1”) and now corresponds to 2,995 mm (9.83 ft.). Most importantly, this means more leg room for the rear passengers (+70 mm / 2.7”).

The interior space is now dominated by a large digital display that combines the functions of the dashboard and the infotainment system. The latter now supports touch and gesture control. You may switch among various instrument panel views, including Modern Classic, Sport, Progressive, and Discreet.

Driving aids include active cruise control, emergency brake and the Active Tailback Assist system which can take over control over the car in traffic jams and even form a rescue lane for a fire truck, an ambulance or a police vehicle.

On the mechanical side of things, the new Mercedes-Benz GLE comes equipped with an advanced suspension design known as the E-ABC. Air struts are combined with gas springs, while regular struts are connected to small electric motors that help reduce roll when entering turns, accelerating and decelerating.

The car will ship with a choice between four-, six- and eight-cylinder engines. So far, we only know the specifications of a new V6 turbo: 370 hp (275 kW) and 500 Nm (370 lb·ft) of torque. Its mild-hybrid system can reportedly provide a temporary boost to 392 hp (292 kW) and 700 Nm (516 lb·ft). All engines will work in conjunction with 9-speed automatic transmissions.

The new CUV is already in the final pre-production testing phase. It will celebrate its premiere in early October 2018 and be released in 2019.
