World’s only Ferrari F40 with a V12 goes on sale

Iconic Auctioneers is selling a one-off Ferrari F40 that UK-based Simpson Motorsport saved from the scrap press and outfitted with a massive non-turbo engine. It is estimated at £500,000–600,000, or about a half of what a reasonably preserved stock F40 costs these days.

Ferrari used this example for a crash test and intended to scrap it afterwards, but a racing driver used his connections to salvage the wreck. Once at Simpson Motorsport, it was completely restored using OEM body panels but not the engine. Rather than putting in the usual 2.9-liter twin-turbo V8, the company decided to try something different. It ultimately went for the 5.5-liter naturally aspirated V12 of the more modern Ferrari 550.

Once back on the wheels, the car proceeded to have a racing career in Europe and the UK, but without much success. It scored silver at the Britcar event of 2006 and was later stored away. Simpson Motorsport put it through its courses again for the sale, so it should be in fine running condition.
