Ford drops production volumes in Europe

After scaling down its production in the United States, Ford has announced the same cost-cutting measures coming to Europe.

The company’s factory in Cologne, Germany will now work every other week until at least the Christmas holidays. This means that the new all-electric Explorer and Capri models won’t be produced in great numbers. Ford itself blames the worsening situation on the EV market for the low demand, but it still spells doom for the Capri EV, which was only announced four months ago.

The difficulties experienced by the Blue Oval are compounded by the ongoing investment of $2 billion USD into the Cologne industrial site to facilitate large-scale production of EVs. Adding insult to injury is the fact that the company recently retired a number of well-selling ICE cars, including the Fiesta hatchback.
