Chery unveils an off-road minivan

Chery’s Guangzhou show lineup included the Fulwin Jinyun, an MPV concept powered by the seventh-gen Kungpeng powertrain rated for 2,500 kilometers (1,553 miles) of driving range, AutoHome reports.

The minivan sports a boxy body that nonetheless manages to look utilitarian with its slanted pillars, massive “rugged” accessories, mud tires and generous ground clearance. Compared to the rest of the Fulwin range, it has a distinct front end with unique headlights and a see-through tailgate surrounded by LED stripes.

Inside, the front seats can swivel to face the back row, and there is a bulky, tall console in the middle. The steering wheel is yoke-shaped, and displays cover most of the dashboard.

Power for the Jinyun comes from a 2.0-liter combustion engine accompanied by an unspecified electric motor. The company only reveals the range without mentioning any power characteristics. It does mention a suspension system that can scan the road ahead and adjust the clearance accordingly. The chassis can perform standing “tank” turns and can even be made to go sideways in a pinch.

It is unknown whether a minivan like this one will ever reach production. Chery may just be hinting us about its intention to expand its presence on China’s growing MPV market.
