$440k is pocket change for this tuned Porsche 911, apparently

A particularly exclusive 1994 Porsche 911 known as the Mega Speedster went on sale last week. Formerly owned by baseball star Barry Bonds, it had been tuned at several shops, but still failed to sell.

Vittorio Strosek was the first designer to work on the project. He came up with a new soft top, flowing body outlines and a light-hued interior. But after three decades and over 55,000 kilometers (35,000 miles) of use, the Speedster once again needed an overhaul. It was sent from the United States to Evomax in Europe.

The tuning shop had spent three years restoring it to perfection, only completing the work last year. The Mega Speedster ended up with new carbon/Kevlar bodywork all around, some muscular-looking fenders, new front and rear fascias, and a fresh coat of Meissen Blue.

If you look inside the cabin, you will see Porsche 918 Spyder carbon-backed seats clad in white leather. The rest of the interior is a tasteful cross between retro and modern.

Tuner firm Andial worked its magic on the stock 3.8-liter flat-six engine, improving the output compared to stock. We don’t know how much it makes in its current version, but the listing mentions a six-speed MT and RWD, so buyers can at least look forward to an authentic driving experience from this 911.

The issue is, whoever was selling the car on Bring-a-Trailer felt that the top bid of U.S. $440,000 was still insufficient and delisted it.
