Ruf-built, mid-engined Porsche crops up on sale for nearly $2M

Back at the Geneva International Motor Show of 2018, Ruf unveiled a highly ambitious Porsche 911 build that put a 3.8-liter flat-six engine between the axles. Porsche itself has never done the same, so it’s no wonder the car is now heading to an RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction estimated between 1.7 and 1.9 million USD.

Known as the Ruf CTR3 Clubsport, it rides on an aluminum space-frame chassis from Multimatic and is largely based on the main CTR3 model first revealed in 2012. It features an ultralight carbon/Kevlar exterior, a PDK transmission and rear-wheel drive system. With the liquids on, it doesn’t weigh much more than 1,360 kilos (3,000 pounds).

As for the engine, it comes tuned to 777 PS (766 hp / 571 kW) and sends the coupe from standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in three seconds flat. The top speed is estimated at 380 km/h (236 mph). Contrary to what its low weight would suggest, the car offers a surprisingly nice-looking leather cabin finished in the same shades of dark green and black as the exterior.

It is believed that only 30 examples of the Ruf CTR3 were made, 7 out of them in the mid-engined Clubsport spec. The example seen here is reportedly the one that was exhibited at the Geneva show, so bidding at the Monterey Car Week on August 13–15 could get heated.
