BYD Han L & Tang L bow in China

BYD has unveiled a new sedan called Han L and its SUV-shaped cousin, Tang L. Both are available in EV and plug-in hybrid variants.

The four-door car is sized 5,050 x 1,960 x 1,505 mm (197.3 x 76.6 x 58.8 inches) large with 2,970 mm (116 inches) of wheelbase. It rides on 19-inch wheels.

The SUV measures 5,040 mm x 1,996 x 1,760 mm (196.9 x 77.8 x 68.8 inches) large and has a 2,950-mm (115.3-inch) wheelbase. Customers can choose between 20-inch and 21-inch wheels.

Going for the all-electric version of either car gets you 680 PS (671 hp / 500 kW) in RWD spec and whopping 1,102 PS (1,087 hp / 810 kW) in AWD spec. The latter uses a 313-PS (309-hp / 230-kW) electric motor on the front axle and a 789-PS (778-hp / 580-kW) one on the rear one.

Both powertrains are based on the automaker’s e-Platform 3.0, but the AWD sedan is the fastest of the bunch with a 2.7-second sprint time and a 270 km/h (167 mph) top speed.

The hybrids take advantage of BYD’s latest, fifth-generation DM powertrain that combines a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine rated at 156 PS (154 hp / 115 kW) with either one or two e-motors. The former option is called DM-i and sends 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) to the wheels. The latter is called DM-p and has twice as much power and torque.

The battery size of 29.5 kilowatt-hours is universal across the range. Depending on the trim level and other options, the Han L can cover 145–170 km (90–105 miles) on a charge. The Tang L gets 135–165 km (84–102 miles).
