Toyota unveils FT-Me Concept for drivers aged 14+

The European branch of Toyota has presented a new concept EV called the FT-Me. It’s a light quadricycle with solar panels on the roof.

The whole thing us under 2.5 meters (98 inches) long, but seats two people. According to its designers, it only occupies a half of a normal parking spot, so should be easy to park. Its controls are akin to those of an e-scooter, which is why it has no pedals. Being categorized as a quadricycle in Europe makes it eligible for teenager drivers 14 years and older.

Toyota also claims high visibility from the driver’s seat, high maneuverability in traffic and lots of connected features (including seamless smartphone support). Keyless entry is included as standard.

The powertrain details aren’t there yet, but the company says the FT-Me Concept spends only one-third of the amount of power a typical EV spends per kilometer. The solar panels can allegedly provide 20-30 km (12-18 miles) of free range on sunny days.

It is unknown whether a vehicle like this will ever reach actual production.
