VW ID. Polo gets a Cupra twin

When it introduced its all-electric ID. Polo hatchback, Volkswagen let it slip that the other VW Group brands would be able to borrow its platform for their own vehicles. The first one has just been introduced under the name “Cupra Raval”.

The five-door hatchback debuted in a special camo wrap depicting one of Barcelona’s districts in a topographical map. Despite the disguise, it looked unmistakably like the UrbanRebel Concept that Cupra had shown us twice before.

According to the automaker, the new Raval is slated to arrive in 2026 and become Volkswagen Group’s sportiest affordable electric car. It will boast a more aggressive exterior than the ID. Polo ride 15 mm (0.6 inches) lower and benefit from a stiffer suspension setup with extra roll stabilization. Like the range-topping ID. Polo GTI, the flagship Raval spec will feature a single 225-PS (222-hp / 165-kW) motor driving the front axle. Adaptive shock absorbers, wide 19-inch wheels and bucket seats will also be included in the spec.

While Volkswagen never revealed the size of its battery-powered Polo, Cupra did it by posting the dimensions of the Raval EV. It measures 4,046 x 1,784 x 1,518 mm (158 x 69.7 x 59.3 inches) large with a 2.6-meter (101.6-inch) wheelbase. That’s rather compact and on par with the gas-powered Ibiza hatchback.

All production and sales are planned for the next year. Since there are no specific dates, it’s possible that Cupra launches its hot hatch ahead of the VW ID. Polo.
