Rare 1969 De Tomaso Mangusta goes on sale

Alexandro de Tomaso’s company released around 400 Mangusta sports cars, but the example going on sale tomorrow is a U.S.-only limited edition. The seller hopes to get between $250,000 and $300,000 for it.

The Mangusta went into production in 1967. A couple of years later, the company built around 50 examples of the car for the North American market, styling them with a distinct radiator grille and two pop-up headlights instead of the fixed four in the European version.

The example on sale has been thoroughly restored and modified, the listing mentions. It was swapped to a new 5.0-liter Ford V8 stroked out to 5.6 liters of displacement, raising its output to 330 PS (325 hp / 243 kW). The original engine made only 230 PS (227 hp / 169 kW).
