Jaguar’s luxury GT EV flashes interior

Although the British sports car maker’s firstborn EV – provisionally named the Jaguar GT – won’t debut until five months later, the company has recentlly invited a number of car reviewers on a test drive. We realize that they drove a pre-production car, but would it be unfair to say that the interior came out weird at best?

One of the first things that catch the eye is a wide, curved display spanning the dashboard space in front of the driver. It looks like it doubles as the digital dash and the infotainment display. Then there’s the steering wheel, which is slightly squared off and houses what looks like backlit capacitive buttons trimmed with cheap plastic. The wheel hub appears to be taped over; we assume it could be hiding the new Jaguar logo, but that’s open to speculation.

A glance behind the wheel reveals two fat stalks with even more backlit sensor buttons. In contrast, traditional physical controls seem to be non-existent. One has to wonder how well this design decision will be received by the target audience.

When it debuts in September this year, the Jaguar GT will pack three e-motors rated close to 1,014 PS (1,000 hp / 746 kW). It will be able to sprint from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in around three seconds and travel 700 km (435 mi) per charge. Do note that all these figures are preliminary and subject to change.
