With assistance from Stellantis Group, Chinese automaker Leapmotor has introduced its first production car for Europe at the IAA Mobility Expo 2025. It is a compact-sized, hatchback-shaped EV known as the B05. It will go on sale next year and compete with the VW ID.3 on its home turf.
Aside from the ID.3, the hatchback falls into the same market segment as the Cupra Born and the MG4 EV. CarNewsChina quotes its own sources claiming that it will be nearly the same size as the ID.3, which is 4,262 mm long, 1,809 mm wide and 1,552 mm tall (166.5 x 70.7 x 60.6 inches).
On the exterior side of things, the Leapmotor B05 cuts a lean and minimalistic profile with a solid taillight strip, a matching LED DRL at the front end, flush door handles and blackout trim accents – no chrome in sight. The trim details remain to be announced, but observers seem to agree that the B05 will try to sway the buyers with its extensive list of standard features and advanced driving assist systems.
Like the B10 SUV before it, the B05 is based on the LEAP3.5 platform. The B10 also made an appearance in Munich this year packing a 177-PS (175-hp / 130-kW) electric motor and a 56.2-kWh battery pack. A more premium version is obtainable in China with a 215-PS (212-hp / 160-kW) motor and a 67.1-kWh battery. It’s not uncommon for Chinese EVs to share their powertrain options, so we expect the B05 to get both variants listed above.
Prices weren’t mentioned, but we hear that the customers in Europe will have to part with €35,000 for the base spec. The Volkswagen ID.3 starts from €33,300 in Germany.
Shortly after the launch, Leapmotor plans to introduce the B10 in Europe as well. It will compete with the likes of Ford Explorer EV and Peugeot e-3008. Priced between 109,800 and 139,800 Yuan in China (that’s roughly €13,100–16,700), it received over 15,000 preorders within 60 minutes from launch, according to the company. Another SUV called the A10 is slated to join them later on as well.
