XPeng spied testing its first MONA-badged sedan

Chinese automaker XPeng announced at the recent Auto China show that it would launch a new car sub-brand called MONA in June. Its first production vehicle – a compact-sized sedan so far known only as the F59 – has now been spotted on the road, Car News China reports.

The brand name unfolds into “Made Of New AI”, which means that the company will implement the latest AI-powered self-driving tech in all cars it makes. The project was co-funded by taxi service DiDi. Despite the high tech on board, the cars themselves are expected to be cheap, costing from 100,000 to 150,000 Yuan depending on the trim (roughly U.S. $14,000–21,000).

The F59 seen in the gallery below has T-shaped headlights, pull-out door handles, video cameras all around, and NFC door lock sensors. A glimpse inside reveals a dual-spoke steering wheel, a large infotainment display in the middle and two cup holders. Paying extra will get you a passenger-side display as well.

Rumor has it the car will be all-electric and rear-wheel-drive. XPeng has a LiFePo4 battery pack in store for it that should be enough for approximately 550 km (342 miles) of range per charge. This remains to be confirmed, though.
