Lamborghini nabbed testing a Hyundai car

Car spies have tracked down a new car leaving the premises of Lambo’s Sant-Agatha Bolognese HQ. The catch is, it was an all-electric Ioniq 5 N produced by Hyundai. It was accompanied by a Ferrari hybrid, a McLaren, and a few test mules, Motor1 reports quoting its sources.

One of the simpler explanations for the sighting is that someone at Lamborghini just happens to own the Ioniq 5 N and drive it to work. Still, as CarBuzz rightly points out, carmakers often test vehicles made by their competitors to figure out what technologies and design solutions they use. It wouldn’t be too strange for Lambo to be checking out how Hyundai managed to achieve a good weight balance with the Ioniq 5 N, particularly in the way the load is distributed across the chassis. It could also be studying the company’s gearbox imitation feature known as the N e-shift.

One way or another, we would imagine the Italian automaker being interested in what its rivals have to offer in the EV market. The Ioniq 5 N may not come close to the definition of a supercar, but it is nonetheless a capable and high-performance vehicle with much going for it in terms of modern technology.

Little is known about Lambo’s first EV to date. It is expected to reach the market before the end of the decade and be based on the Lanzador EV Concept – at least, to a certain degree. It is being envisioned as a three-door Grand Tourer with lots of ground clearance and 1,360 PS (1,341 hp / 1,000 kW) of power heading for the wheels.
