Tesla Model Y gets refreshed for 2025

The new Tesla Model Y “Juniper” has debuted in China. The first deliveries will have to wait until March, but you can already leave a reservation.

The electric SUV looks completely different thanks to an all-new front fascia that somehow manages to look more sloped and bulkier at the same time. The bumper, the hood and the solid headlight strip look borrowed from the Cybercab taxi. The taillights were overhauled as well, with an additional light strip with “Tesla” lettering added in between.

On the design efficiency side of things, Tesla promises customers a quieter and more comfortable ride thanks to multiple structural improvements, suspension tweaks and better wheels shod in low-resistance tires.

Open the door, and you will find new trim materials and optimized seats. A 15.4-inch display is installed in the middle of the dashboard, while second row occupants may use a smaller 8-inch touchscreen. Tesla promises improves self-driving thanks to a new front-facing camera, but doesn’t go into any detail on the topic.

The pre-facelift Tesla Model Y is available in China with three powertrains to choose from. The refreshed version only has two so far – RWD and AWD. The former includes a 299-PS (295-hp / 220-kW) motor and a 62.5-kWh traction battery. It sprints 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in 5.3 seconds and runs up to 593 km (368 miles) on a charge.

The AWD version uses two motors rated at 186 PS (183 hp / 137 kW) and 254 PS (251 hp / 187 kW). It also benefits from a battery expanded to 78.4 kWh. It concludes the standard sprint in 4.3 seconds and can go on for 719 km (447 miles) on a charge – a solid improvement over the pre-update 688 km (427 miles).

Charging is possible from sources rated up to 170 kW (for the RWD version) and 250 kW (for the AWD version). In both cases, staying plugged into a sufficiently powerful outlet gives you 250 km (155 miles) of range in just 15 minutes.

Prices in China start from 263,500 Yuan for the Model Y RWD. Its dual-motor counterpart starts from 303,500 Yuan.
