Rare Jaguar duo crops up on sale

Pistonheads has announced a forthcoming auction dedicated to a pair of rare Jaguar sports cars – an XJR-15 and an XJR-S. Buying just one is not an option.

The XJR-15 was the world’s first production car to feature a carbon-fiber body. It came out in a batch of just 53 units in 1990–1992, out of which 27 were street-legal. The example on sale is a track-only vehicle bearing the chassis number 48.

Back in 1991, Juan Manuel Fangio II piloted it to victory in a Formula 1 support race at Silverstone. The car still bears the driver’s autograph on its body. It also participated in multiple Intercontinental Challenge events. Despite the rich racing career, it is still said to be in excellent, completely authentic condition.

A 6.0-liter V12 engine sends 450 PS (444 hp / 331 kW) to the wheels. Like any racecar, the XJR-15 has a fairly ascetic cabin equipped with carbon bucket seats, four-point safety harnesses and a fire extinguishing system. 17-inch OZ wheels come wrapped in Pirelli rubber. The top speed amounts to 354 km/h (220 mph).

The other car in the bundle is its street-legal counterpart called the XJR-S. The listing is very light on details regarding this one, not even mentioning the year of manufacture. We are told that it is in great condition without a single major restoration down the line and under 1,000 km (620 miles) on the odometer.

There are no price estimates yet.
