New BYD YangWang U7 PHEV packs five motors

BYD-owned premium vehicle brand YangWang has added a plug-in hybrid powertrain to the previously all-electric U7 supercar lineup. The new sedan has just been entered in China’s Ministry of Industry database with all the specs.

Apparently, it is getting four electric motors to drive one wheel each. Two of them are rated at 326 PS (322 hp / 240 kW) each and the other two at 364 PS (359 hp / 268 kW) each. A 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine assists them with 272 PS (268 hp / 200 kW) of its own. The combined output maxes out at 1,360 PS (1,341 hp / 1,000 kW).

The YangWang U7 PHEV features a fairly large traction battery as well, rated at 5.24 kilowatt-hours of capacity and up to 180 km (112 miles) of WLTC range in all-electric mode. Switch to hybrid, and you’ll get 1,000 km (621 miles) per gas tank.

Sized 5,360 x 2,000 x 1,515 mm large with 3,200 mm of wheelbase, the hybrid U7 is slightly larger than its battery-electric cousin. It ships with a panoramic roof already included in the spec and has some high-end options like carbon-fiber bodywork, assorted brake calipers coming in a variety of colors, and video cameras for mirrors. The range-topping four-seat version treats the rear passengers to their own infotainment displays, folding tables and other luxury options.
