Tuners put eight cylinders back in Mercedes-AMG C63 S

The latest Mercedes-AMG C-Class flagship isn’t an inferior car by any means, but its 2.0-liter four-pot hybrid system doesn’t sound nearly as appealing as a V8 does. Vuk Manufaktur, from Austria, decided to bring the missing four cylinders back with a rather impressive swap job.

There is no mention of the specific block used, but everything points to AMG’s current 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 mill that many of its best cars come equipped with. It works in tandem with a seven-speed auto transmission and is no longer burdened by the hybrid hardware – all three e-motors and their battery pack are deleted.

We don’t know how much power and torque the setup makes, but it has to be enough for the C-Class. What interests us more is that AMG used to say the new C63 S was unable to physically accommodate a V8 under its hood. We wouldn’t call it an outright lie, because the company may have had other considerations in mind, such as cooling efficiency, emission rates, or crash test scores. But it is clear now that the sedan has enough room in the engine bay for twice its current cylinder count.

Vuk Manufaktur hasn’t revealed yet whether it plans to sell the tuning and how much it would cost.
