Alpine seems determined to electrify the A110

The premium sports car maker from Renault Group calls the all-electric A110 prototype “Future” and swears that it’s going to be the world’s first actual, genuine, pureblooded electric sports car.

Compared to the current ICE version of the coupe (see video), the EV looks largely the same with only minor trim differences. The company explains that the emphasis is being made on new technology, which is currently running pre-production tests.

The A110 Future utilizes the Alpine Performance Platform largely made of aluminum and takes advantage of 800-volt internals for faster charging. It commands two electric motors driving one rear wheel each. The automaker claims that this drivetrain layout is ideal for sharp, responsive handling with plenty of available torque.

Another noteworthy feature of the “world’s first REAL sports EV” comes in the shape of a battery pack split in two parts. Alpine says it was done to achieve a clean 40:60 weight distribution ratio between the front and the rear axle.

With that said, it remains up in the air what powertrains the new A110 generation will arrive with. The company said before that it was technically possible to install a standard engine on this platform, so we suspect the market may ultimately decide which one it likes more.
