60-year-old, fully restored Ford Galaxie 500 may sell for $0.2M

The Ford Galaxie 500 sedan was introduced six decades ago, had a Space Race-inspired name and competed against the likes of Chevy Impala back in its era. Today, you can buy one for $10,000 or so in reasonable condition – or splurge on a restomod, like the one seen here.

The restoration job took three years to complete. The car ended up with new suspension arms, RideTech air cushions, Wilwood brakes all around and a modern electric fuel pump. The body was also fully restored, finished in a shade of silver and complemented with nice LED lights.

A peek under the hood reveals that the engine is no longer stock, either. Instead, it’s a 5.0-liter naturally aspirated Ford Coyote V8 made in 2011 and later upgraded with new cylinder heads. The transmission is six-speed automatic, and the drive is on the rear wheels. The listing doesn’t mention the output, but we’d expect a fair bit more than the mill’s stock 493 PS (486 hp / 363 kW). For a bit of perspective, the Galaxie lineup had something like 200 horsepower (150 kilowatts) on average.

Rounding off the stylish build is a tasteful pale blue leather interior. Amenities on board include an audio system, a custom three-spoke steering wheel and a Vintage Air HVAC.

Mecum will be offering the car for sale on May 17th, with estimates lying between $175,000 and $200,000.
