Hyundai Palisade goes off-roading in a new edition

Hyundai’s New York show lineup includes the Palisade XRT Pro, a more rugged take on the stock Palisade SUV.

It wears a new front bumper, a revised radiator grille, red recovery hooks and special 18-inch wheels. Suspension modifications allow it to have 213 mm (8.3 inches) of ground clearance, which is 25 mm (1 inch) more than stock. The approach and departure angles are also now better at 20.5 and 22.4 degrees, respectively. An electronic rear diff lock is included for torque control, and 255/60 off-road tires are provided for optimum traction.

Drivers get dedicated presets for driving on mud, sand and snow. The infotainment screen can now display the current tilt angle and direction. Last but not least, added video cameras make the hood “transparent”.

The XRT Pro is coming to the North American market with a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated V6 rated at 291 PS (287 hp / 214 kW) and 353 Nm (260 lb-ft) of torque. An eight-speed automatic transmission delivers the momentum to all four wheels. Later on, the lineup will be complemented with a hybrid powertrain capable of 334 PS (329 hp / 246 kW) and 460 Nm (339 lb-ft), Hyundai says.
