Check out a Lexus racer worth $1.6 million

A nine-year-old Lexus LFA Nürburgring Edition just changed hands for U.S. $1,600,000, surpassing even the most daring high estimation of $1,100,000.

The Nürburgring package includes a carbon body kit, an updated six-speed DSG transmission with faster switching times, enhanced suspension, and BBS magnesium alloy wheels. The 4.8-liter naturally aspirated V10 under the hood gains 10 horsepower in this version and produces 562 PS (554 hp / 413 kW).

Out of the 500 total LFA units, only 64 were released in the Nürburgring Edition, and only 25 made it overseas to the United States. The cars came finished in white, black and orange with no other options. This specific example features a black exterior and a black Alcantara-cladded cabin – an extremely rare combination. It only has around 1,500 km (under 1,000 miles) on the odo.

The same auction saw a same-age standard Lexus LFA go for half the amount of this Nürburgring Edition. A new LFA cost around $375,000 back in its time, and the special version started from $445,000.

Despite its special chassis construction, the supercar series never became popular and took very long to sell. A few years ago, three zero-mileage cars were discovered in the United States despite the fact that production ended in 2012.
