Check out a hardcore Mazda MX-5 off-roader

This first-generation Mazda MX-5 roadster converted into a monster truck known as the Bajayata has recently changed hands for U.S. $13,500.

The car, which appears to be not street-legal, received an Offroadster suspension kit from Paco Motorsports. It also ended up with new 15-inch wheels shod in 31-inch BF Goodrich tires, as well as AFCO Racing coilovers. When raised to their highest position, the coilovers grant this unlikely Miata 384 mm (15 inches) of ground clearance.

To keep things safe, the owner installed bull bars at both ends, skid plates underneath the chassis and a Hard Dog roll bar from Track Dog Racing. He also mounted a whole spare wheel onto the trunk lid and added nighttime driving lights to the front.

To compensate for the added weight, he upgraded the turbos, replaced the flywheel with a custom stainless-steel one and sourced a six-speed manual transmission from a more recent 2004 Miata roadster. The listing didn’t specify how much more than the stock 130 PS (128 hp / 96 kW) the engine produces, but it must be a fair bit.

Interestingly enough, the interior was allowed to stay stock. You don’t often see a Miata off-roader like this, and when you do you assume a stripped cabin, but this build apparently prioritizes comfort over a little bit of dynamic.
